Decatur, AL (January 28, 2026) – A deadly accident involving two vehicles claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman early Tuesday morning at the intersection of AL Hwy 24 and Old Hwy 24 in Decatur. The tragic incident occurred just before 6:30 a.m., prompting a swift emergency response from Decatur police and medical crews.
Upon arrival, first responders located one of the drivers unresponsive and trapped inside her vehicle. Despite efforts to administer life-saving aid at the scene, the woman was pronounced deceased a short time later. Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn later identified the victim as Kayla King, a 35-year-old resident of Trinity.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Authorities have not released their identity at this time.
The crash caused significant disruption during the early morning commute, with police securing the area and rerouting traffic while investigators worked the scene. Both vehicles remained at the site as evidence was collected, and reconstruction teams began examining the cause of the accident.
