DECATUR, DeKalb County, Ga., Oct. 11, 2026 — Three adults were hurt early Saturday morning, October 10, when a driver struck them with a vehicle in a parking lot outside a sports bar on Flat Shoals Parkway in the DeKalb County area near Decatur. DeKalb County police said the driver was arrested at the scene.
Officers responded around 2:03 a.m. to a report of pedestrians struck by a vehicle in the 4900 block of Flat Shoals Parkway. Three adults were found with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Detectives said the driver had been involved in an argument inside The Spot Sports Bar and Grill, at 4975 Flat Shoals Parkway, just before the crash. Detectives allege the driver then deliberately drove into the group of pedestrians outside the venue. The driver stayed at the scene after the crash.
The police arrested 24-year-old Amoy Rowe and booked her into the DeKalb County Jail. She faces a charge of aggravated assault, the department said.
The names and current conditions of the three injured adults have not been released. Investigators have also not said what sparked the argument inside the bar before the crash. The case remains under investigation.
We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.
Why Vehicle-Into-Pedestrian Crashes Cause So Much Harm
A pedestrian struck by a vehicle absorbs an impact with almost nothing to soften it. A car's front bumper, hood, and grille are shaped and tuned to manage crash energy for the people inside the vehicle, not for someone standing in its path. There is no seatbelt, no airbag, no crumple zone working on behalf of a person on foot.
Speed matters more than most people realize. Even a vehicle moving at parking-lot speeds carries enough weight, often over a ton, to produce an impact far beyond what muscle and bone can withstand. The closing speed between a moving vehicle and a stationary person leaves almost no time for either side to react, especially if attention is elsewhere in the moment before contact, whether on an argument, a phone, or anything other than the road ahead.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 68,244 pedestrians were injured in traffic crashes in 2023. That figure reflects how often the gap in size and protection between a vehicle and a pedestrian turns a sudden encounter into a serious one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are pedestrian crashes more common at night?
Reduced visibility and lower driver alertness overnight mean a meaningful share of pedestrian crashes happen after dark, particularly outside bars, restaurants, and other late-night venues.
What should a pedestrian do after being hit by a vehicle?
Call 911 immediately, avoid moving if injured, and ask for a medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms appear hours later. Get the names of any responding officers and request a copy of the police report.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
In Georgia, pedestrians in a marked or unmarked crosswalk generally have the right of way, but drivers and pedestrians both share responsibility for watching before crossing or turning.
How can drivers watch for pedestrians in parking lots and near venues?
Slowing down in lots and near entrances, scanning for people between parked cars, and staying alert for pedestrians stepping out unexpectedly all give a driver more time to stop safely.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Decatur, GA
Anyone involved in or who witnesses a pedestrian crash should call 911 right away so officers and medical responders can reach the scene quickly. Even if injuries seem minor at first, a medical evaluation is worth getting, since adrenaline can mask pain or swelling.
If you're a witness, stay until police arrive if it's safe to do so, and share your contact information with officers in case your account is needed later. Request a copy of the official incident report once it's available, and keep records of any medical visits connected to the crash.
