Deer Park, IL (January 14, 2026) – A tragic collision Tuesday afternoon in Deer Park claimed the life of a 95-year-old man and left three others injured, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the area of Lake Cook Rd and Quentin Rd shortly before 3:30 p.m. for reports of a disabled vehicle. Upon arrival, they discovered a man lying in the roadway near two severely damaged vehicles—a black sedan and a white SUV. The man, identified as a 95-year-old Palatine resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities said the elderly driver had exited his 2026 Honda Accord, which had broken down in the westbound lanes of Lake Cook Rd. Witnesses told investigators that he was inspecting the underside of the vehicle when a 2024 Honda HR-V, driven by a 30-year-old woman from Cary, struck the rear of the Accord.
A 77-year-old woman from Barrington, who was a passenger in the Accord, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The HR-V driver and her passenger, a 30-year-old Arlington Heights woman, were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
During the incident, a school bus waiting to turn onto Quentin Rd was sideswiped. The driver, who was alone on board, was not injured, according to officials.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Team is actively reviewing the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. An autopsy has been scheduled for the deceased.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and send our best wishes for healing to all others affected by this devastating event.
