Denham Springs, LA (January 20, 2026) – A devastating early morning house fire in Denham Springs on January 17 claimed the lives of three individuals and left one man injured, according to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal. The blaze broke out just before 6:30 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in the Baton Rouge area.
Responding units from the Denham Springs Fire Department arrived to find the structure engulfed in flames. Tragically, a 96-year-old man and two women, ages 20 and 21, were unable to escape and were pronounced dead at the scene. A 43-year-old man managed to flee the burning home but sustained injuries. His condition has not been fully disclosed.
Investigators are still working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. While no official cause has been confirmed, officials stated that electrical-related factors have not yet been ruled out.
In response to the tragedy, the State Fire Marshal’s Office issued a renewed warning about the dangers of overloading power strips and using multiple extension cords in unsafe configurations—particularly with high-wattage devices like space heaters. Residents are urged to use extension cords only as short-term solutions and to prioritize fire-safe practices in the home.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those lost in this heartbreaking incident and wish the injured man a full recovery.
