How Do Major Highway Crashes Near Exits Affect Traffic in Texas Cities?
Crashes near highway exit ramps tend to create significant traffic disruptions, especially on busy corridors like US-75 in north Texas. When an accident blocks main travel lanes near an interchange, drivers can face long delays as traffic backs up with few nearby detour options. The location of an exit ramp crash also adds complexity for emergency crews working in an area where vehicles are merging or changing speed.
Injury severity in these crashes can vary widely depending on the speed of the vehicles at the time of impact. Drivers near exits are often decelerating, but collisions can still produce serious harm when there is a significant size or speed difference between the vehicles involved. In Texas, crashes on major U.S. highways are among the most frequently reported injury-producing incidents recorded by state traffic safety agencies each year.
