Frequently Asked Questions
Where do most car-bicycle collisions happen?
Many happen at intersections or along roadway shoulders, often when a driver fails to see a cyclist in low light, merges across a bike's path, or strikes a rider from behind, as troopers say happened in this case.
What is "dooring" and why is it dangerous?
Dooring happens when someone in a parked car opens a door into a cyclist's path with no warning. It can throw a rider into traffic and gives them almost no time to react.
How can cyclists stay safer in traffic?
Using lights and reflective gear, riding predictably, and staying visible at intersections all help, though they can't fully offset a driver who isn't watching the road.
What to Do After a Bicycle Crash in Dickinson, ND
If you're involved in a bicycle collision in Dickinson, try to get to a safe spot and call 911 right away. Even injuries that feel minor at first, like soreness or a bump to the head, can turn out to be more serious once adrenaline wears off, so a medical evaluation is worth getting the same day. Remember to write down or photograph anything you remember about the vehicle and the scene while it's fresh, and ask any bystanders if they're willing to share what they saw. Keep a copy of the police report for your records, and give yourself time to rest and heal before getting back on the bike.
