Discovery Bay, CA (March 1, 2026) – One person died Saturday afternoon after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 4 near the Old River Bridge in the Discovery Bay area. The collision was reported around 3:45 p.m. on February 28 and involved a red Chevrolet Silverado, a motorcycle, and a white truck.
Investigators said the Silverado was traveling west when it braked and moved into the opposite lane for unknown reasons, striking the eastbound white truck. The impact caused the white truck to hit the motorcycle and continue into an irrigation canal, where it overturned.
The driver of the white truck died from injuries sustained in the crash. The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver of the Silverado was not hurt.
The roadway, including the bridge, was closed for several hours while emergency units worked at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of this highway crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
What Is Examined After a Chain-Reaction Crash Involving Multiple Vehicles
Crashes that begin with one vehicle entering the wrong lane can quickly involve others, especially on two-way highways. When an initial impact occurs, the force can push vehicles into additional traffic or off the roadway.
Investigators often review braking patterns, lane positions, and the sequence of impacts to understand how the crash developed. The final resting places of the vehicles and damage to each one help show the order of events.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway and enters water or a canal, recovery operations and road closures may last longer. These steps allow crews to safely remove the vehicle and document the scene.
