Why Head-On Collisions Linked to Impairment Are Especially Severe
Head-on crashes often result in significant damage because both vehicles are traveling toward each other, which increases the force of impact. When impairment is involved, reaction times and lane control can be reduced, raising the likelihood of a vehicle drifting into opposing traffic.
Roadway design, lighting conditions, and traffic flow can also influence how quickly a driver notices an oncoming hazard. Even a brief lapse in attention or control can lead to serious outcomes on busy roadways.
Law enforcement typically reviews crash scenes, vehicle positions, and witness accounts when impairment is suspected. These cases often lead to both criminal charges and traffic investigations as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events.
