Carroll Township, OH (July 29, 2026) – A tow truck driver was hurt in a three-vehicle crash on State Route 2 near North Benton Carroll Road in Carroll Township on Tuesday, July 28,  shortly after 11 a.m. near mile marker 5.3, causing the roadway to close temporarily.

The impact sent the tow truck off the road and into a water-filled ditch. First responders removed the driver from the truck, and the driver was airlifted to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Information about the other drivers’ conditions was not immediately available.

State Route 2 was later reopened after crews cleared the scene and completed cleanup efforts following a diesel fuel spill. More information may be updated as they become available.

We are thinking of the truck driver as we hope for their swift recovery.

How Crash Cleanup Works After Vehicle Collisions

After a serious roadway crash, crews must address more than vehicle removal before traffic can safely resume. Damaged vehicles may need to be moved carefully, especially when they are located off the roadway or in areas with water, uneven ground, or other hazards. Cleanup teams may also inspect the area for spilled fluids, debris, and conditions that could create risks for drivers.

Fuel spills and other materials from damaged vehicles require proper handling to reduce hazards on the roadway and surrounding areas. Crews may use absorbent materials, equipment, and safety procedures to clean affected areas before reopening lanes. The amount of time needed depends on the crash location, vehicle damage, and the type of materials involved.
