Fernley, NV (May 28, 2026) – One driver was hurt Thursday morning in a two-car crash along US50A near Wedge Lane in Fernley. Emergency units were called to the roadway around 6:45 a.m. after reports of a collision in the area.
When crews arrived, they found both vehicles resting in the median with minor to moderate damage. One person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The identities of those involved had not been released as of Thursday.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation as more information is gathered. We hope the injured person recovers quickly.
Why Median Crashes Can Create Traffic Hazards
Vehicles that leave their travel lanes and enter a median can pose additional dangers to surrounding drivers, especially on busy highways. A driver may lose control while trying to avoid another vehicle, reacting to sudden traffic changes, or traveling too fast for roadway conditions.
Even crashes involving moderate damage can block visibility or leave debris near passing traffic. Medians are designed to separate opposing lanes, but vehicles entering them may still strike barriers, signs, or other cars. Morning travel periods can also increase risks because of changing light conditions and heavier commuter traffic. In some cases, investigators review driver attention, speed, and roadway conditions to better understand how a median-related collision occurred.
