Why Intersection Crashes Can Be Especially Dangerous for Older Drivers
Intersections require quick decision-making, including judging the speed and distance of oncoming traffic. For older drivers, even small delays in reaction time or visibility challenges can increase the risk of a collision.
Traffic volume, signal timing, and roadway layout can also affect safety at busy crossings. When vehicles enter an intersection from different directions at the same time, the potential for serious crashes increases. Safety experts often emphasize the importance of reducing speed and remaining alert, especially in areas with frequent cross-traffic or limited sight distance.
