Smyth County, VA (September 1, 2026) – Authorities are investigating a driver who was killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 81 in Smyth County. The crash happened around 7 a.m. on Monday, August 31, when a Ram 1500 traveling north left the roadway.
According to the Virginia State Police, the Ram crossed the median and struck a Freightliner head-on. The driver of the pickup died at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity. The incident remains under review by authorities.
