Phoenix, AZ (May 26, 2026) – A motorcyclist lost her life on Sunday night after being struck by a driver in north Phoenix. The fatal collision happened shortly before 9 p.m. near 27th Avenue and Yorkshire Drive, south of Loop 101.
Investigators said 25-year-old Kendra Lenae Harrison was riding her motorcycle southbound on 27th Avenue when a driver making a left turn onto Yorkshire Drive entered her path. According to investigators, the motorist saw the traffic signal change and mistakenly believed a green turn arrow was displayed when the arrow remained red.
Harrison was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver remained at the scene and was not believed to be impaired. The driver’s identity has not been released.
Charging recommendations are expected after reconstruction work is completed. Additional details about the accident had not been made public as of this report.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the fatal roadway encounter.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Harrison’s family and friends during this difficult time.
How Left-Turn Signal Errors Can Lead to Serious Motorcycle Crashes
Traffic signals with protected turn arrows are designed to separate turning vehicles from oncoming traffic. When a driver misreads a signal, the results can be severe, particularly for motorcyclists. Motorcycles are smaller than passenger vehicles and can be harder to notice, especially during nighttime travel or at busy intersections.
A protected left-turn arrow gives drivers a dedicated opportunity to turn without crossing the path of approaching traffic. If a motorist turns before receiving that signal, they may enter the roadway directly in front of another vehicle with little time for either person to react.
Investigators usually review traffic signal timing, roadway design, witness statements, and vehicle movements when examining these types of crashes. Such information can help create a clearer picture of how the sequence of actions unfolded and whether traffic controls were followed.
