DUBLIN, Alameda County, Calif., Oct. 21, 2026 — Two people were taken to a hospital Tuesday morning, October 20, after a head-on crash on Dublin Boulevard sent both vehicles off the road and onto the shoulder of westbound I-580.
Dublin Police Services responded to the collision at 8:54 a.m., according to Captain Miguel Campos. A white Rivian SUV and a silver Hyundai Sonata collided head-on, and the impact pushed both vehicles off the roadway, where they came to rest on the right shoulder of westbound I-580, Campos said.
Two occupants were hospitalized with injuries whose extent has not been released. Dublin Boulevard was closed in both directions between Silvergate and Inspiration Drive from 9 a.m. until about 12:20 p.m. while officers investigated and cleared the scene.
Police have not released the names of those involved or said what led to the crash. The cause remains under investigation, Campos said.
Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are head-on crashes so severe? Both vehicles are typically moving toward each other, so the combined speed at impact is much higher than in a rear-end or side-impact crash, putting more force on the occupants of both cars.
How can drivers avoid a head-on collision? Staying alert for vehicles drifting into oncoming lanes, keeping a safe distance when passing, and slowing down on curves or in low visibility give drivers more time to react if another car crosses the center line.
Where do most head-on crashes happen? They're common on two-lane roads without a median, where opposing traffic is separated only by a painted line, though they can also occur when a vehicle crosses a divider or shoulder, as this one did near I-580.
What role does passing play in head-on crashes? Passing on a two-lane road briefly puts a driver in the oncoming lane, and misjudging the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle during that maneuver is a common way head-on crashes start.
What to Do After a Head-On Crash in Dublin, CA
If you're involved in a head-on crash, call 911 right away and try to move to a safe spot if you're able to. Even if you feel fine, get checked by a medical professional, since injuries like whiplash or internal bruising don't always show symptoms right away. Remember to take photos of the vehicles and the surrounding road if it's safe to do so, and get the names and badge numbers of responding officers. Ask how to obtain a copy of the official crash report once it's filed, since it will be useful for insurance claims and any follow-up questions about what happened.
