Tukwila, WA (June 1, 2026) – Multiple people were injured Sunday, May 31, after a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck on Interstate 5 in Tukwila. According to initial reports, one driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following the chain-reaction traffic emergency.
Several gallons of milk being transported in the semi truck spilt onto the roadway during the aftermath, creating additional complications for crews working along the interstate. Emergency units assisted those involved while traffic was affected in the area for a period of time.
The number of people hurt and the extent of their injuries were not included in the initial report. Additional information about the accident had not been made public as of this report.
Investigators are still working to determine all factors that contributed to what took place on the interstate. We hope those receiving treatment make a full and speedy recovery.
Why DUI-Related Multi-Vehicle Traffic Emergencies Can Become More Severe
Driving under the influence can significantly reduce a driver’s ability to react to changing traffic conditions. Impaired judgment, slower reaction times, and reduced awareness often increase the likelihood of a driver striking other vehicles, especially on busy highways where traffic patterns can change quickly.
When large commercial trucks are involved, roadway disruptions may become more complex. Cargo spills, lane blockages, and extended cleanup efforts can add to delays and create additional hazards for motorists. Multi-vehicle traffic emergencies also tend to involve more people, which can increase the need for medical evaluations and roadway management. Highway safety experts regularly emphasize sober driving because even a single impaired driver can affect many others sharing the road.
