Frequently Asked Questions
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
High speed, nighttime conditions, and a large size or weight difference between vehicles (such as a car striking a moped) all raise the chance that a crash will be fatal rather than survivable.
How does speed affect crash survivability?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the risk of severe or fatal injury, especially for riders on mopeds or motorcycles who have little protection.
What should families do after a fatal crash?
Families can request the official crash report from the investigating agency, stay in contact with the assigned investigator for updates, and reach out to local victim services organizations for support.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
Seat belts keep occupants inside the vehicle and limit how far they are thrown during a crash, which lowers the risk of fatal injury in most collision types, though moped and motorcycle riders have no comparable restraint.
