Opelousas, LA (July 29, 2026) – A fatal two-vehicle incident involving an electric bicycle claimed the life of a 57-year-old Opelousas man early on Tuesday morning, July 28, on the I-49 Service Road near LA 3721.
According to the Louisiana State Police, the fatal crash happened around 6 a.m. Investigators said Jamie Doucet was riding an electric bicycle southbound when a 2012 Nissan Rogue traveling in the same direction struck the bicycle from behind for reasons that have not yet been determined.
Doucet was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nissan driver was not hurt. The cause of the crash is still being examined as investigators continue gathering information.
