Montgomery County, KS (August 21, 2026) – Kevin Hooper, 59, of Coffeyville, was killed on Wednesday, August 19, after a semi-truck struck his E-bike on U.S. 166. The accident happened around 5:52 a.m. as both vehicles traveled east in the outside lane while crossing the Verdigris River Bridge.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the semi-truck struck the rear of the E-bike because the bicycle was traveling more slowly. Hooper died at the scene from his injuries. The semi-truck driver was not hurt. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under review.
