What Makes E-Bike Crashes Potentially Severe?
Electric bicycles have become increasingly popular because they allow riders to travel farther and faster than traditional bicycles with less physical effort. While they share many characteristics with conventional bikes, the higher speeds e-bikes can reach may increase the risk of serious injury in a roadway collision.
Intersections are common locations for bicycle-related crashes because riders and drivers must navigate crossing traffic, turning movements, and changing signal patterns. Visibility can also be a factor, especially when drivers and cyclists approach from different directions.
After a serious e-bike crash, investigators often examine roadway conditions, vehicle positions, traffic controls, and witness accounts. Physical evidence and damage patterns may also help establish the sequence of actions leading up to the contact. These findings can provide a clearer picture of how the vehicles came together and why severe injuries occurred.
