How Red-Light Violations Can Affect E-Bike Safety
Intersections are among the most common places for serious traffic injuries involving e-bikes. Because e-bikes can travel at higher speeds than traditional bicycles, riders may have less time to react when traffic signals change or when vehicles enter an intersection from another direction.
Traffic signals help organize vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian movement. When a rider enters an intersection against a red light, drivers who have the right of way may have little opportunity to avoid contact. Visibility, speed, and roadway design can all influence how quickly people can react.
Helmet use can also affect the severity of head injuries during a roadway collision. While helmets cannot prevent every injury, they are designed to reduce the risk of serious trauma in many types of bicycle and e-bike crashes. Following traffic signals and wearing protective equipment remain key parts of safe riding practices.
