Des Moines, IA (May 27, 2026) – Two people were hurt Wednesday morning after a car and one or more electric bicycles were involved in an accident in Des Moines.
The collision was reported at about 9:30 a.m. near the 5000 block of Southwest 14th Street. Initial scanner information described the call as a car versus electric bike report.
Two patients were reported after the wreck. The first report did not confirm whether both people were on one electric bicycle or whether two separate bikes were hit.
Emergency units were sent to the location, but no hospital information was immediately released.
The cause remains under review as more details are gathered. We hope both people hurt receive the care and support needed during recovery.
Why E-Bike Accidents Can Lead to Injuries
E-bike accidents can cause injuries because riders have limited protection when they are near cars and trucks. An electric bicycle can travel faster than a standard bicycle, which may increase the force of a fall or contact with a vehicle. Riders may hurt their head, arms, legs, shoulders, or back.
When more than one patient is reported, medical teams may need to check each person for different injuries. Road design, traffic speed, visibility, vehicle movement, and bike position can all help explain how contact occurred. If two riders or two bikes were involved, investigators may also review where each person was before the roadway emergency. Witness statements and nearby cameras may help clarify the sequence.
