The crash left one big rig hanging over the side of an embankment. The eastbound freeway was closed in the north San Fernando Valley while emergency units worked at the scene. What Details Are Reviewed After Big Rig Freeway Crashes?
Big rig freeway crashes usually require a close review of traffic speed, lane position, braking, and how each vehicle moved before contact. Large trucks need more time and distance to stop, and their weight can make crashes more severe.
When a truck goes over an embankment or hangs off the roadway, crews may need extra time to stabilize the vehicle and safely remove anyone trapped inside. Diesel spills and debris can also create hazards that require cleanup before lanes reopen.
Investigators may review vehicle damage, roadway marks, driver statements, and any traffic camera footage. Medical records can help show the severity of injuries for those taken to hospitals. These details are reviewed together to better understand how the freeway crash unfolded.
