What Should eBike Riders Know About Road Safety?
eBike riders face many of the same hazards as people traveling in other vehicles, along with risks linked to having less physical protection. Wearing a properly fitted helmet can reduce the chance of serious head injuries during a fall or roadway incident. Riders should also use front and rear lights when traveling after dark or in low-visibility conditions.
Following posted speed limits and traffic signals can give riders more time to react to vehicles, pedestrians, and changing roadway conditions. Staying alert and avoiding distractions can also help prevent sudden conflicts. Riders should use designated bicycle lanes or paths when available and remain predictable when sharing streets with other traffic.
At intersections, checking for turning vehicles and making eye contact with drivers when possible can provide an added safety measure. Properly maintained brakes, tires, lights, and other equipment are also important for safe travel.
