Edwardsville police and fire crews responded around 11:30 a.m., according to Cathy Hensley, the city's communications coordinator. The crash involved a Volkswagen and a Jeep, and the Jeep ended up on its side, reportedly visible shortly before noon.
Firefighters freed the occupants of the Jeep from the vehicle, Hensley said. A third person was treated at the scene. It was not specified whether that person was transported for further care.
Tow trucks arrived shortly after noon to clear both vehicles from the roadway. The crash remains under investigation, and no cause has been released.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered such a major hazard on the road?
Even a few seconds of a driver's attention away from the road, whether from a phone, a passenger, or something inside the vehicle, can mean missing a stopped car or a changing signal before reacting.
How do road and weather conditions play into crashes like this one?
Wet pavement, debris, or poor visibility can reduce a driver's control when another vehicle enters their path, turning a routine stop into a collision.
What should someone do right after being in a car accident?
Move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and wait for police and medics to arrive. Even if injuries seem minor, it's worth getting checked out, since some symptoms don't show up right away.
Where do most traffic crashes tend to happen?
A large share of crashes occurs on local roads and at intersections near home, often in daylight, rather than on highways or during long trips.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Edwardsville, Illinois
If you're involved in a crash in Edwardsville, start by checking yourself and others for injuries, then call 911 right away. Stay as far from traffic as you safely can while waiting for help. Once police and medics are on scene, let them document the vehicles and conditions before anything is moved, if it's safe to leave things in place. Afterward, get a medical evaluation even if you feel fine, since adrenaline can mask pain from a rollover or a side impact. Keep copies of any police report and hold on to photos of the scene, which can help later with insurance questions.
