Frequently Asked Questions
Where do fatal pedestrian crashes most frequently happen?
Many occur on busier roads and at intersections, where vehicle speeds are higher and crossing distances are longer, especially in the early morning or in low-light hours.
What makes a crash more likely to be fatal for someone on foot?
Higher vehicle speed, poor visibility, and the point of impact all play a role. A pedestrian struck at higher speed is far less likely to survive than one hit at lower speed.
Why is fleeing the scene such a serious issue in these cases?
When a driver leaves before police arrive, it can delay medical response and complicate the investigation, making it harder to establish exactly what happened.
