Cooking equipment, heating sources, faulty electrical wiring, and unattended candles or appliances account for a large share of residential fires. Investigators typically look at all of these before ruling a cause.
What injuries are most common in house fires?
Smoke inhalation is the most frequent injury, followed by burns and injuries sustained while trying to escape, such as falls or impacts in low visibility.
What should residents do if a house fire starts?
Get everyone, including pets, out of the home immediately and call 911 from a safe location. Do not go back inside for belongings, and let firefighters confirm the structure is clear before anyone re-enters.
What to Do After a House Fire in Euclid, Ohio
Anyone displaced by a house fire should first get checked by a medical provider, even if symptoms like coughing or lightheadedness seem minor, since smoke inhalation effects can surface hours later. Contact your homeowner's or renter's insurance company as soon as possible to begin the claims process and ask about temporary housing assistance. Keep a record of the fire department's incident report, photograph any damage before cleanup begins, and make a list of damaged or lost belongings for insurance purposes. Local relief organizations in Euclid can usually help with immediate needs like clothing, food, and short-term shelter while residents sort out next steps.
