How Turning Movements Affect Evening Intersection Safety
Intersections bring vehicles together from several directions, often with turning movements and changing traffic signals. During the evening, drivers may also face heavier traffic or changing light conditions.
A sudden impact can move occupants forward, sideways, or backward inside the vehicle. The head, neck, chest, back, and limbs may all be affected depending on the direction and force of the collision.
Travel speed, contact angle, restraint use, vehicle size, and seating position can influence injury severity. Medical evaluation may be needed to identify fractures, concussion, internal trauma, or other injuries that are not immediately obvious.
