Why Tractor-Trailer and Motorcycle Crashes Are Often Fatal
Motorcycle crashes involving large commercial vehicles frequently result in severe or fatal injuries due to the significant size and weight differences between the vehicles. Riders have very little physical protection during an impact, especially when collisions occur at busy intersections or high-traffic corridors.
Investigators reviewing these incidents often examine turning movements, lane positioning, speed, and visibility conditions. Tractor-trailers also require longer stopping distances and wider turning spaces, which can increase crash risks when motorcycles are nearby. Road closures are common after fatal motorcycle crashes as crews document evidence and safely remove damaged vehicles from the roadway.
