Frequently Asked Questions
Why do trucks need so much distance to stop?
Trucks carry more weight and momentum than passenger cars, so their brakes need more time and distance to bring them to a stop, especially at speed or in tight spaces like residential streets.
What makes truck crashes more dangerous than typical car crashes?
The size and weight difference means a truck can cause more damage to structures, vehicles, and people on impact, even at lower speeds, compared with a crash involving two passenger cars.
What are a truck's blind spots, and why do they matter?
Trucks have large blind spots along the sides, front, and rear where drivers cannot see pedestrians, cyclists, or other vehicles. These zones are a factor in many crashes involving turns, lane changes, or stops.
What to Do After a Truck Crash in Fall River, Massachusetts
If you're involved in or witness a truck crash, start by checking yourself and others for injuries and calling 911 right away. Stay clear of any downed wires, leaking fluids, or unstable structures until first responders confirm the scene is safe. Even if you feel fine, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional, since some injuries from a high-impact crash don't show symptoms immediately. Save any paperwork from the responding fire, police, or EMS agencies, and if your home or property was damaged, document it with photos once you're cleared to do so. Give yourself time to process what happened. Events like this are frightening, and it's normal to need support afterward.
