Fargo, ND (January 21, 2026) – A serious crash in south Fargo left three people hospitalized, including a 5-month-old infant, following a T-bone collision at the intersection of 45th St and 40th Ave S, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. when an SUV driven by 40-year-old William Wah of Fargo was traveling north on 45th St and struck a car in the intersection. Wah’s vehicle collided with a car driven by 24-year-old Shelby Schmalz, also of Fargo. Wah had two passengers: 28-year-old Miatta Hill and a 5-month-old infant.
Both Hill and the infant were seriously injured, as was Schmalz. All three were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment. Authorities reported that Hill had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and the infant was not secured in a child restraint, both of which may have contributed to the severity of their injuries.
Wah was uninjured in the crash. The incident occurred during periods of blowing snow, which may have impacted visibility and road conditions.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is actively investigating the crash and has not yet determined whether charges will be filed against either driver. Multiple agencies, including the Fargo Police Department, Fargo Fire Department, and Sanford Ambulance, assisted at the scene.
