Bay Mills Township, MI (July 16, 2026) – A 62-year-old woman lost her life on July 15 after a head-on collision on West Lakeshore Drive near West Lake Street in Bay Mills Township.
According to investigators, the woman from Lake was driving a Ford Fiesta eastbound at about 10:48 a.m. when a westbound Chevy Trailblazer crossed the centerline and struck her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the site. Her identity had not been publicly released at the time of publication.
The police said the 46-year-old Trailblazer driver from McBain appeared to be intoxicated during the initial investigation. He was arrested on allegations of operating while intoxicated, causing death, and operating while his license was suspended. The driver was hurt and taken to the hospital in Sault Ste. Marie and Petoskey for treatment. He is expected to be lodged in the Chippewa County Jail after receiving medical clearance, and his name is being withheld pending arraignment.
The investigation is continuing as investigators work to determine all the circumstances surrounding what happened.
