Tulsa, OK (August 25, 2026) – A 69-year-old Tulsa man lost his life following a motorcycle crash on Interstate 44 in Tulsa County on Sunday, August 23. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the victim as Steven Fennell.

According to official reports, the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. as Fennell and another driver were traveling east on Interstate 44. The other driver slowed to yield for a fire truck entering the roadway with its lights and siren activated. Fennell was riding a motorcycle when he rear-ended the car. The impact caused Fennell to fall from the motorcycle.

Fennell died following the accident, and his next of kin was notified. The other driver was not injured. The incident remains under review by authorities.

Our condolences go out to Fennell’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

What Can Happen When a Motorcycle Strikes a Slowing Vehicle?

Rear-end crashes involving motorcycles can result in serious injuries because riders have less physical protection than people inside passenger vehicles. A motorcycle rider can be thrown from the bike or fall onto the roadway after an impact.

Traffic conditions can also change quickly around emergency vehicles. Drivers may slow or stop to allow emergency vehicles to enter or cross a roadway. Other motorists must have enough time and distance to respond to those changes safely.

Motorcycle riders can reduce some risks by maintaining a safe following distance and watching traffic several vehicles ahead. Wearing a properly fitted helmet and protective riding gear can also provide added protection during a crash.
