Forsyth, GA (August 29, 2026) – A collision involving two vehicles left one person dead on Thursday evening, August 27, on Highway 87 near the entrance to Plant Scherer. The incident occurred around 5:42 p.m.
According to investigators, a Tesla Model Y hydroplaned and entered the path of a Kia Sorento. The driver and passenger in the Kia were taken to a Macon hospital for treatment. The Tesla driver, identified as 25-year-old Jacob Rainwater of Covington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Monroe County coroner said Rainwater was traveling home from work in Macon when the weather-related collision occurred. The investigation remains active as officials continue to examine the circumstances. We extend our sincere condolences to Jacob Rainwater’s family and loved ones.
