Mathews, VA (August 3, 2026) – A woman died after a trailer disconnected from another vehicle and struck her truck on Saturday afternoon, August 1, on New Point Comfort Highway in Mathews County. Emergency units responded to the crash around 1:13 p.m.
The woman was driving a 2002 Ford F250 when the detached trailer hit her vehicle, causing fatal injuries. Authorities said the trailer came loose from a 2023 Chevrolet 2500 driven by 61-year-old Donald Turbin of King William. The roadway was closed for several hours while crews processed the scene. Turbin was cited for an uninspected trailer and failing to secure his load.
The incident remains under review as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
