What Can Affect Pedestrian Safety on Busy Roadways
Pedestrian crashes often occur when people cross roads outside designated areas or unexpectedly enter active lanes. Drivers may have limited time to react, especially on roads with steady traffic flow.
Lighting conditions can also influence visibility at night. Poorly lit areas may make it harder for drivers to see pedestrians, leaving them little time to avoid a collision.
Road design, including the presence of crosswalks and traffic signals, can affect pedestrian safety. In many cases, both driver awareness and pedestrian decisions contribute to how these incidents occur.
