Roanoke, VA (September 8, 2026) – A house fire on Greenbrier Avenue SE in southeast Roanoke claimed the lives of two adults early on Monday morning, September 7, at about 2:44 a.m. on the 1400 block.
The first firefighters arrived minutes later and found the two-story home fully engulfed in flames. The response was upgraded to a two-alarm fire at 2:57 a.m., bringing additional resources to the scene.
Crews encountered downed power lines and structural collapse while working to control the fire. Two adults were found inside the home and died in the fire. The incident remains under investigation.

House fires can spread quickly, especially when flames reach multiple areas of a structure. Working smoke alarms on every level of a home can provide an early warning and give occupants more time to escape.
Families should also create and practice a fire escape plan. Everyone should know at least two ways out of each sleeping area when possible and have a designated meeting place outside the home.
