Grand Junction, CO (August 11, 2026) – Five 17-year-old boys were killed after a vehicle went off a cliff and crashed into a hillside in Grand Junction on Sunday, August 9.
Grand Junction police said first responders were dispatched to the 2000 block of Lookout Lane at approximately 7:45 a.m. after receiving a report that a vehicle had driven off the edge of a cliff.
According to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office, all five occupants were 17-year-old boys from Grand Junction. All five victims were pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Their names will not be publicly released because they were minors.
The initial investigation indicated the vehicle was traveling southbound on Lookout Lane when it veered off the roadway and down the steep hillside. Police are also investigating speed as a possible factor.
Personnel from the Grand Junction Police Department, Mesa County Search and Rescue, Grand Junction Fire Department and Mesa County Coroner’s Office worked together to recover the victims. The investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators may examine roadway conditions, vehicle damage, the vehicle’s path, and other available evidence when determining why a vehicle left the roadway. In this case, police said speed is being considered as a possible factor, while the investigation continues.
