Trappe, MD (June 10, 2026) – EMS and Fire were called to the scene of a serious collision that left five people injured on Wednesday afternoon, June 10.
The accident involved a passenger vehicle and a Mack truck on westbound Route 50 at Greenfield Avenue in Trappe. Emergency units responded to the collision shortly after 2 p.m. Initial reports indicated that one person was heavily trapped inside a damaged vehicle following the impact.
Rescue crews requested additional rescue companies to assist with the extrication effort. Authorities also reported that three pediatric patients were evaluated at the scene by EMS personnel. Officials later confirmed that the trapped patient was successfully extricated from the wreckage around 2:38 p.m.
Two patients required air medical transport, while three others with minor injuries were transported by ground ambulance. Emergency responders temporarily requested the Maryland Shock Trauma Go Team before later canceling the request after the extrication was completed. Our hearts are with the injured, and we hope for their healing.
Why Entrapment Crashes Often Require Large Emergency Responses
Crashes involving heavy trucks and trapped occupants often require extended rescue operations because of the force involved in the collision. Large commercial vehicles can cause severe structural damage to smaller passenger vehicles, making extrication more difficult for emergency crews.
Investigators typically review vehicle speeds, impact points, and roadway conditions to understand how the crash occurred. In serious collisions, rescue teams may request additional equipment, air medical transport, or specialized trauma personnel to assist injured patients quickly.
Children involved in crashes are often evaluated carefully, even when injuries appear minor, because symptoms can develop later. Emergency responders also work to stabilize damaged vehicles before removing trapped occupants safely.
