Why Left-Turn Intersection Crashes Lead to Multiple Injuries
Left-turn collisions at intersections are a common type of crash because drivers must judge the speed and distance of oncoming traffic while completing the turn. Misjudgment or limited visibility can result in direct impacts between vehicles.
Investigators typically review signal timing, lane positioning, and sightlines when analyzing these crashes. Vehicle damage patterns and final resting positions can help determine which vehicle had the right of way.
When multiple occupants are involved, injury reports can vary depending on seating position and point of impact; even when crashes occur at moderate speeds, the combined force of a front-end collision can result in injuries for several people inside both vehicles.
