Elmhurst, NY (June 4, 2026) – Five people were hurt on Tuesday afternoon, June 2, after a fast-moving house fire in Elmhurst. The fire was reported around 3:45 p.m. at a home at 40-34 78th Street.

The FDNY received a 911 call for flames at the rear of the house. More than 70 firefighters and EMS personnel were sent to the block between Roosevelt Avenue and 41st Avenue.

Four people were taken to Elmhurst Hospital and listed in stable condition. A fifth civilian was treated at the site.

The fire was brought under control at about 4:43 p.m. The American Red Cross registered five adults and three children for emergency assistance, including help with housing. The cause of the fire remains under review by fire marshals.
