Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes between passenger vehicles and semi trucks?
These crashes usually involve a combination of factors such as blind spots, following distance, turning movements, or one vehicle failing to yield. Investigators usually need time to determine which factor, or combination of factors, played a role.
How does speed affect the severity of a crash like this?
Higher speeds reduce the time a driver has to react and increase the force of impact. Even a modest increase in speed can turn a survivable crash into a fatal one, especially in collisions involving a much heavier vehicle like a semi.
Why is distracted driving a particular concern in truck-involved crashes?
A momentary lapse in attention, whether from a phone, fatigue, or something inside the vehicle, can be enough to miss a stopped or slow-moving truck ahead. Given the size difference between vehicles, the margin for correcting a mistake is small.
What to Do After a Car and Semi Truck Crash in Flint Township, MI
Anyone involved in or who witnesses a crash like this should call 911 right away and, if it's safe, move to a location away from traffic. Even if injuries seem minor at first, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional, since some injuries from a collision with a large truck aren't immediately obvious. Get the names and contact information of anyone else involved or any witnesses, and take photos of the scene if you're able to safely do so. If you have information about this crash, including anything you saw on Bristol Road Friday morning, contact Flint Township Police so investigators can complete their report.
