We hope everyone involved remains safe and receives any assistance they may need.
What Happens After a Multi-Vehicle Freeway Collision?
Multi-vehicle freeway collisions often require a longer review process than two-vehicle traffic events. Investigators typically examine vehicle positions, driver statements, roadway markings, and any available video footage. Information from witnesses may also help establish how traffic conditions changed before contact occurred.
When several vehicles are involved, determining the order of contact can be a key part of the review. Damage patterns, debris placement, and vehicle movement may provide useful details. Traffic backups can also complicate the process because drivers and vehicles may be moved before all information is collected.
In some cases, separate issues arise after the vehicles stop, including disputes between drivers or passengers. As a result, investigators may review both the roadway sequence and any actions that occurred afterward to build a complete picture of what took place.
