Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes multi-vehicle pile-ups like this one?
They often start with one vehicle suddenly slowing or making contact with another, and the following vehicles can't stop in time and are pulled into the chain reaction, especially in heavy highway traffic.
Why do chain-reaction crashes happen so fast on highways?
Vehicles traveling close together at highway speed leave little time to react once the car ahead brakes or swerves, so the damage can spread through several vehicles within seconds.
What should I do if I come up on a crash blocking lanes on the highway?
Slow down well before the scene, turn on hazard lights, and merge early into an open lane. Avoid stopping in traffic lanes unless directed to by emergency crews, and watch for responders working near damaged vehicles.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Fort Lauderdale, FL
If you're involved in or witness a multi-vehicle crash in Fort Lauderdale, move to a safe spot if your vehicle is drivable and call 911 right away. Even if you feel fine, ask to be checked by paramedics on scene, since injuries like whiplash or internal bruising from airbag deployment aren't always obvious right after a crash. Get the names and contact information of other drivers and any witnesses, and take photos of vehicle positions and damage if it's safe to do so. Request a copy of the official crash report once it's filed, and follow up with your own doctor in the days afterward if anything feels off. Keep records of any medical visits, as they can matter later for insurance purposes.
