FORT WORTH, Tarrant County, Texas, Oct. 27, 2026 — Two people were hurt on Sunday morning, October 25, when a vehicle rolled over on southbound I-35W in Fort Worth. A suspected drunk driver has been charged in connection with the crash, Fort Worth police said.
A vehicle struck the back of another SUV just before 1:30 a.m. near Altamesa Boulevard, south of I-20, causing both vehicles to veer toward a wall. The impact sent the SUV into a rollover, trapping the two occupants inside before other drivers stopped to help pull them free.
One occupant, identified by family as Claudia Luna, was knocked unconscious and suffered a head injury along with bruising, according to an account she gave from the hospital. She has since been released and is recovering at home, the report said. A second occupant remains in critical condition with a broken leg, and no further update on that person's condition has been released.
Investigators identified the driver accused of causing the crash as 34-year-old Gustavo Diaz. Police said Diaz attempted to flee on foot after the collision but was located quickly with help from witness descriptions. He faces two counts of intoxication assault involving serious bodily injury. Authorities noted this marks Diaz's second arrest in the span of a week; he was also arrested on a DWI charge the previous Sunday, October 18.
The investigation remains open, and no additional details have been released.
We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "tripped" rollover?
A tripped rollover happens when a vehicle's tires catch on something, like a curb, soft shoulder, or another object, causing the vehicle to tip and roll instead of sliding or spinning out. This differs from "untripped" rollovers, which can occur at high speeds during sharp turns, mostly in taller, narrower vehicles.
How can drivers reduce rollover risk?
Keeping tires properly inflated, avoiding sudden sharp turns, and leaving distance from vehicles ahead all help a driver keep control if something unexpected happens on the road.
What injuries are common in rollover crashes?
Occupants can suffer head injuries, broken bones, and spinal injuries, particularly if they are thrown against the roof or windows during the roll. Seatbelt use significantly lowers the chance of being ejected from the vehicle.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Fort Worth, TX
If you're involved in a rollover, try to stay calm and check yourself and any passengers for injuries before attempting to move. If the vehicle is upside down and it's safe to do so, unbuckle carefully and brace for the fall to avoid landing awkwardly. Call 911 right away, even if injuries seem minor, since symptoms like head trauma or internal injuries can take hours to appear. Accept help from bystanders if you're trapped, but avoid moving an injured person unless there's an immediate danger like fire. Once you're safe, seek a full medical evaluation and get a copy of the police report for your records.
