Springfield Township, OH (July 3, 2026) – Four people were taken to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision on Airport Hwy in Springfield Township.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m., about three miles east of Toledo Express Airport between Crissey Rd and Albon Rd. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a semi-truck driven by a 61-year-old Kentucky man crossed the centerline while traveling eastbound and struck a westbound car driven by a 56-year-old Toledo woman.

The car was then hit by a pickup truck travelling in the westbound lanes. The semi continued forward, striking a minivan driven by a 68-year-old Swanton man before colliding with another pickup operated by a 75-year-old Delta man. The semi left the roadway and overturned.

One person had to be freed from a vehicle before being taken to the hospital. The severity of the injuries had not been released at the time of publication. Airport Hwy reopened between Crissey Rd and Albon Rd at about 3:45 p.m. The circumstances surrounding the wreck remain under review as investigators continue to gather information.

We are thinking of those injured and wish them a full recovery.

Why Centerline Crossings Can Lead to Multi-Vehicle Highway Collisions

When a vehicle crosses the centerline on a busy highway, it can quickly involve several vehicles traveling in opposite directions. As the initial contact occurs, other drivers may have little time or space to avoid becoming part of the chain reaction.

Reviews of these collisions usually include vehicle paths, roadway markings, braking evidence, and the final resting positions of each vehicle. Investigators may also examine traffic volume, visibility, and roadway conditions to reconstruct the sequence of impacts. These findings help explain how a single vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic can develop into a crash involving multiple vehicles and several injured people.
