Why Head-On Crashes Lead to Serious Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway collisions because both vehicles are moving toward each other at the time of contact. This can create a strong force that leads to major vehicle damage and a higher chance of serious harm for those inside.
Several factors may contribute to these crashes, including drifting across the centerline, distraction, fatigue, speeding, or poor visibility. Rural and two-lane roads can also increase the risk when there is little separation between opposing traffic.
In many cases, medical evaluations are recommended even when injuries first appear minor. Some symptoms, including neck pain or internal trauma, may not become noticeable until hours later. Investigators also review roadway markings, vehicle positions, and witness statements to understand how the crash occurred.
