Brookhaven Town, NY (September 3, 2026) – Four people were hurt in two separate vehicle collisions within about 90 minutes on Tuesday afternoon in Brookhaven Town. The crashes occurred between approximately 11:40 a.m. and 1 p.m. on September 1.

The first collision happened around 11:40 a.m. at William Floyd Pkwy and Roberts Rd E in Shirley. A northbound 2006 Honda was traveling along William Floyd Pkwy when a 2018 Chevrolet turned left from the southbound side toward Roberts Rd E, resulting in a collision.

The second crash occurred around 1 p.m. in Port Jefferson on Rte 25A. A westbound 2014 Audi was traveling on the highway when a 2016 Hyundai exited a shopping center parking lot and collided with it.

Both drivers were hurt with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson. The circumstances surrounding the two collisions remain under review.

We hope everyone hurt makes a steady recovery.

What Should Drivers Know About Crashes at Intersections and Parking Lot Exits?

Intersections and parking lot entrances can create conflict points because vehicles may travel in different directions or make sudden turns. Drivers turning across traffic must watch for vehicles with the right of way and allow enough space before entering another lane.

At shopping center exits, drivers should stop where required and check for traffic from both directions. Limited visibility from parked vehicles, signs, landscaping, or other obstructions can make it harder to see approaching vehicles.

Using turn signals helps communicate intended movements, but drivers should still confirm that the path is clear. Maintaining a reasonable speed also gives motorists more time to react when another vehicle turns or enters the roadway unexpectedly.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.

Focus on your recovery and
