Frequently Asked Questions
How do left-turning cars cause motorcycle collisions?
A driver turning left at an intersection may misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply not see it, and pull directly into its path. These misjudgments are a leading cause of car-motorcycle crashes at intersections.
What can drivers do to watch for motorcycles?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice before turning or changing lanes, and remembering that a motorcycle's smaller profile can make it harder to judge speed, helps drivers spot riders sooner.
What should a rider do after a motorcycle crash?
Move to a safe location if possible, call 911, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some injuries are not immediately obvious. Documenting the scene and waiting for law enforcement to arrive is also recommended.
Are motorcycle accidents more common at intersections?
Intersections are a common site for motorcycle crashes because of turning vehicles, limited visibility, and the number of vehicles crossing paths in a small area.
