GREENSBORO, Guilford County, N.C., Oct. 27, 2026 — A young boy has died after he was struck by a car while crossing a street on the east side of Greensboro Monday evening, October 26.
Officers responded around 6:55 p.m. to the intersection of Lowdermilk Street and Cameron Avenue on a report of a crash with serious injuries. A man was reportedly driving a Chrysler Sebring north on Lowdermilk Street when a child ran into the road and was hit.
The child was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. Neighbors said he had been playing outside near his home and talking with friends across the street when the crash happened.
The driver, identified by police as a 59-year-old Greensboro man, was charged with driving while his license was revoked, operating a vehicle with no insurance, and having expired registration and inspection, authorities said. Investigators said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Pedestrian crashes often happen because of distracted driving, failure to yield at crossings, poor visibility, or a pedestrian entering the roadway unexpectedly.

Lower speeds give drivers more time to stop and reduce the force of impact if a crash happens, which can make the difference between minor and fatal injuries.
Where do most pedestrian accidents happen?
Many pedestrian crashes occur at or near intersections, though a significant number also happen when people cross outside marked crosswalks or in areas without good lighting.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Greensboro, NC
If you witness or are involved in a pedestrian crash, you should call 911 right away and avoid moving an injured person unless there is immediate danger. Even if injuries seem minor at first, a medical evaluation is important, since some injuries do not show symptoms right away. Getting the names of witnesses and letting police document the scene can help families understand what happened in the hours and days that follow. For families coping with the loss of a child or loved one, leaning on local support networks and taking time to grieve matters as much as sorting through the practical steps ahead.
