Frequently Asked Questions
What should a pedestrian do after being hit by a car?
If you're involved, you should call 911 immediately, stay as still as possible until help arrives, and avoid moving an injured person unless there's immediate danger. Getting a medical evaluation quickly is important even if injuries seem minor at first.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
In South Carolina, pedestrians generally have the right of way in marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections, though drivers and walkers both share responsibility for watching for each other, especially in low light.
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles frequently suffer head trauma, broken bones, and internal injuries, since they have little protection compared to someone inside a car.
